In their opening match, Samoa faced a tough challenge from Spain but managed to come out on top with a 28-24 victory. Despite a fierce fightback from the Spanish team, Samoa’s strong performance at the breakdown and some impressive tries from Paul Scanlan, Tuna Tuitama, and Faafoi Falaniko secured the win.

Samoa’s success continued in their second game against Fiji, where they dominated at the breakdown and outplayed their opponents. With tries from Scanlan and a brace from Tuitama and Falaniko, Samoa secured a convincing 28-7 win, leaving Fiji with only one try from Iowane Teba as their sole consolation.

Samoa’s first day of the tournament ended with another impressive win, this time against Canada with a scoreline of 39-7. Malo Luteru and Owen Niue stood out with two tries each, contributing to Samoa’s dominant performance.

On the other hand, Fiji, who had previously defeated Canada 21-12, needed to win their final game against Spain to progress. They managed to do so with relative ease, with Sevuloni Mocenacagi opening the scoring and Manueli Maisamoa adding another try just before half-time. Terio Tamani’s quickfire tries in the second half further secured Fiji’s victory, and Iowane Teba’s solo try in the last play of the game sealed the win for Fiji against Los Leones Sevens.
