A remarkable day unfolded at St Joseph’s College, highlighted by the celebration of student achievements amidst a gathering of family and friends. The event held a deeper significance for Henry Peniamina John Vianney Tagiilima, hailing from Sinamoga, Faleū Manono, Leauvaa, Moamoa, Vaimoso, and Vavau.

In a proud moment for his parents, Tevaga Viane Tagiilima and Tuala Maria Melei Tagiilima, Henry was honored as the school’s dux during the prize-giving ceremony at the school hall in Alafua on Saturday morning. His academic prowess shone through as he secured first place in English and History, second in Geography, H.P.E, and Economics, and third in Religious Education.

Speaking to Samoa Newshub, the 16-year-old dedicated his success to his role models—his parents. “My journey has been laden with trials and challenges, often bringing me to the brink of giving up. However, my parents’ prayers have instilled hope and encouragement, pushing me to persevere,” Henry shared. “Their academic achievements have been a great source of inspiration for me. Achieving the title of Dux has been one of my biggest goals, and I’m elated to have realised it.”

Henry emphasised the importance of hard work in reaching one’s goals. He expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him through his college journey. Regarding his aspirations, the young dux revealed his ambition to become a lawyer, fueled by his faith in divine guidance. Additionally, he harbors a passion for cinematography, viewing it as his next big goal.

As an Arts student and the son of an ex-student of the school, Henry attributes his achievements to divine grace.
