The head of health in Samoa has dismissed recent news reports suggesting the consideration of border restrictions due to a rise in Covid-19 cases. Dr. Alec Ekeroma clarified that there is no such plan and that the Ministry of Health might propose increased testing at the airport instead of flight restrictions. Currently, testing is focused on symptomatic individuals, and while widespread testing could be recommended based on the situation, decisions about borders are in the hands of the government. Dr. Ekeroma emphasized the importance of getting Covid-19 booster shots, especially with the expected increase in cases during the Christmas season.
