Samoa is set to bolster its tourism experience with the introduction of village signs, a move that will aid both locals and tourists in navigating the island nation, reports Savali Newspaper. This initiative, a collaboration between the Samoa Tourism Authority (S.T.A.) and the New Zealand Government, is planned to begin in October, aligning with Samoa’s hosting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
The project, funded through the Samoa Tourism Recovery and Resilience Programme by the New Zealand government, is a significant step in enhancing Samoa’s tourism infrastructure. The Chairperson of the S.T.A. Board of Directors, Tauiliili Alise Stunnenberg, and the High Commissioner of New Zealand to Samoa, Dr. Trevor Matheson, officially launched the initiative.

In her keynote speech, Tauiliili Alise Stunnenberg emphasised the importance of the village signage project, especially in the context of the upcoming CHOGM. She expressed gratitude to the New Zealand government for its continuous support in advancing Samoa’s tourism sector. Sign Studios has been tasked with creating these signs, which come with a significant investment of $320,788.19.
The village signs are expected to offer a more memorable experience for visitors, particularly those who prefer self-driven exploration of Samoa. Dr. Matheson highlighted the importance of signage in marketing strategies and commended the S.T.A. and all involved for reaching another tourism milestone. This project not only aims to facilitate easier navigation but also to showcase the beauty of Samoa to its visitors.
