The Cabinet has approved the reappointment of Ms. Gisa Fuatai-Purcell for another three-year term as the Regulator. Following the advertisement for the vacancy, two candidates were shortlisted, and Ms. Fuatai-Purcell was unanimously recommended as the most qualified and experienced candidate after the recruitment process.
A press statement from the Government confirmed her reappointment, highlighting her extensive qualifications and experience. Ms. Fuatai-Purcell holds a Masters in Commerce and Administration from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, along with a Post Graduate Diploma in Information Systems Management from the same university.
Ms. Fuatai-Purcell’s career spans both domestic and international roles within the IT industry. She served as the National ICT Sector Committee Secretary and Assistant CEO with the Ministry of Communication, Information, and Technology (MCIT) for six years from 2003 to 2009. Additionally, she held esteemed positions such as Project Manager at the International Telecommunication Organization, ITU Geneva, Switzerland, from 2009 to 2016, and Regional Adviser for the South Pacific at the Commonwealth Telecommunication Organization, London, United Kingdom, from 2016 to 2018. Since 2018, she has been the Director and Acting Secretary-General for ICT Development at the Commonwealth Telecommunication Organization in London, United Kingdom.
Ms. Fuatai-Purcell’s contract expired in November last year, leading to her reappointment for a second term. She is married to Member of Parliament of Satupaitea, Lautafi Selafi Purcell.
