Falsely Accused for the Misuse of Funds for the Development of the District of Fa’asaleleaga No.2 Project
I extend warm greetings to Samoa during this crucial phase, amidst the challenges we face. However, I wish to address the recent concerns regarding the administration of funds in my esteemed constituency of Fa’asaleleaga No.2.
I speak with humility and transparency, as necessary. As Magele Sekati Fiaui, the Representative for Fa’asaleleaga No.2 District and also a Member of Parliament, I provide this clarification in response to allegations raised regarding my handling of funds allocated for the district’s development.
I wish to reaffirm to the government and people of Samoa the following:
- There has been no misuse of any of these funds under my oversight.
- The checkbook and documentation of funds for projects for the constituency have been in the hands of the secretary for the District ‘Fono Fa’avae’ (committee handling the money distribution for district projects)
- The report on the utilisation of these funds has been submitted to the Joint Committee of the Ministry of Women, Community and Social Development, in conjunction with the Office of the District Representative and the Development Project team that deal with analysis and investigation of the use of funds.
- The Honourable Minister for the funds has assured the provision of additional funds for the completion of district projects, pending the conclusion of the committee’s investigation.
I reaffirm to my beloved constituency and Samoa my unwavering commitment. I urge patience and restraint in the face of any concerns arising from this issue where I am blamed as your member of parliament. I assure you that I will never engage in actions that would diminish or bring shame upon my family and my district.
As you know, these initiatives and these massive projects are new initiatives that were never attempted by any government before. And there are a lot of moving parts and complications, unforeseen issues and problems, as you’ve all witnessed with other districts.
I extend my sincere gratitude to you all for your steadfast support and understanding. Even a wise fisherman, inexperienced or hasty, may lose the catch on the outrigger side.
It is my prayer I offer each day, that your watchful eye be blessed by God today and everyday.
