An outstanding performance by the Friends volleyball team from Vaitele Uta led to their victory in the women’s division on the final day of the Samoa Volleyball Association’s open tournament in 2024.
The club overcame hurdles since day one just to reach the finals.
They played against another powerful team from Puipaa, the Teuila, and dominated two sets, which proves that they were the best women’s team of the tournament.
In an interview with Samoa Newshub, the captain of the Friends said their win was the result of teamwork.
“The majority of our players are students. As a captain, I appreciate the fact that despite the need to focus on their studies and assignments, they always showed up during our trainings.
I thank their parents for the trust and support, and I am proud to see all of them put so much effort into our games, which is why we got the results we wanted,” said Sally Apisaloma Faatupunuu.
She also acknowledged the hard work done by their coach, Asi Fotulafai Faatupunuu.
When asked about the meaning behind the name of the club, ‘Friends,’ the captain explained that their team is a group of friends who have the same goal, which is to achieve triumph in this particular sport.
The Friends club only has 10 members.
Friends cannot wait to register its members for the Independence tournament in June, where overseas teams will participate.
The final was held at Gym 2, Tuanaimato, on Saturday.
