Apia, Samoa – The Ministry of Works, Transport and Infrastructure is proud to announce a significant milestone in the career of Lauano Yvonne Talaitupu Mariner-Viliamu, Assistant CEO and Director for Civil Aviation of Samoa. Lauano has successfully become the first Samoan certified as an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Universal Security Audit Programme (USAP) Continuous Monitoring Approach (USAP-CMA) Auditor.

The certification process, which concluded in Nadi, Fiji from May 5th to 15th, included rigorous training and participation in a diverse group of sixteen international participants, with only seven hailing from the Pacific. This achievement is not just a personal milestone for Lauano but a testament to Samoa’s dedication to advancing its aviation security and safety standards on a global scale.

Lauano is set to further her involvement in international aviation security as one of the only two Pacific Islanders allocated upcoming missions. She will undergo the final stage of acceptance into the ICAO USAP CMA Pool of Auditors in November, further solidifying her role as a global contributor to aviation security.

Notably, Lauano is also the first female to hold the position of Director of Civil Aviation in Samoa, marking a significant breakthrough for gender equality in aviation leadership roles within the region.

The MWTI remains committed to fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement within the Civil Aviation industry. Lauano’s pioneering achievement as Samoa’s first ICAO USAP-CMA Auditor is a clear indication of this commitment and is sure to inspire further advancements in Samoa’s contributions to international aviation security.
