Vaitele, Samoa – The Magic Circus of Samoa Friday night incident has garnered widespread attention and varying reactions on social media. The incident took place towards the end of the circus show and involved disruptive behaviour from a group of young people, resulting in heightened concerns among attendees.
A group of youths, identified primarily as residents of Toamua village according to a letter by The Magic Circus of Samoa published on its FB page, reportedly under the influence of alcohol or drugs, attempted to disrupt the performance by throwing bottles and shouting profanities. The disturbance caused alarm among the audience, with reports indicating that many attendees, including children, were visibly distressed.
The only recorded physical damage was to a vehicle belonging to a circus staff member, which had its rear window smashed. No injuries to the public were reported, and there was no damage to other vehicles present at the event.
Circus staff and security managed to contain the situation until the arrival of the police. The authorities apprehended four individuals at the scene, and subsequent actions have increased the number of those in custody to fifteen. Charges are currently being processed against those involved, and they remain in police custody.
In response to the incident, discussions were held between the circus management and the mayor of Toamua village. A decision was made to deploy fifty matai and aumaga from the village to provide additional security. This move will ensure the safety of the public and their property during circus events.
