Samoa celebrates 19th annual Father’s Day

The Ministry of Women, Community, and Social Development marked the 19th anniversary of Samoa’s Father’s Day celebration with a heartfelt tribute to fathers across the nation. The event, held to honour the invaluable contributions of fathers, and their roles as guiding figures within their families and communities.

In her address, Minister of Women, Community, and Social Development, Hon. Mulipola Anarosa Ale Molioo, spoke of the importance of fathers, “Fathers, you are the North Star for your child, your family, your village, your nation.”

The theme for Father’s Day 2024, “TAMĀ: O se Malamalama Ta’iala, e faasusulu atu Ala o le Filemu ma Manuia,” captured the essence of fatherhood.

“Fathers are the guiding lights, providing wisdom, strength, and direction. Their leadership and dedication are the foundations upon which our families and communities stand strong,” Hon. Molioo further elaborated,

A father named Tupu teaches his daughter Leilani to navigate by the stars, imparting lessons of trust and support. Hon. Molioo narrated, “Tupu held her hand, pointed to the brightest star, and said, ‘This star will always lead you home, just as I will always be here to guide you.'”

Fathers play a crucial role in promoting gender equality and social inclusion. “In today’s world, the principles of gender equality and social inclusion are essential. Fathers, you play a pivotal role in promoting these values within your families and communities,” Hon. Molioo said.

“On this special day, we honour our ancestors, the fathers who have come before us. Their sacrifices, love, and unwavering commitment are beyond measure.

“True progress and harmony are achieved when fathers, mothers, and families work together in decision-making,” Hon. Molioo conitnued.

Additionally, the event announced upcoming educational programs, discussions, and health check-ups in Savaii and Upolu, aimed at promoting health and well-being. These initiatives will be led by the Samoa Family Health Association and the Ministry of Health, with presentations on good governance provided by the Samoa Umbrella for Non-Governmental Organisations (SUNGO).

“Fathers, we are grateful for your support and wisdom. With God’s grace, you make our journey smooth and illuminate paths of peace and prosperity. Thank you for being our guiding light,” Hon. Molioo concluded.
