A total of 2,000 hotel rooms and selected private accommodations have been secured, along with 1,000 rooms on a large cruise ship that will dock at Matautu Wharf, to accommodate the registered and confirmed delegates attending.
This special announcement from the government confirms the comprehensive preparations for housing all delegates attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mataafa stated that over $40 million was allocated by the government for this event, with substantial contributions from our international partners.
The government, through the Accommodation Joint Committee, has been closely overseeing the construction and renovation of hotels and private family homes, all of which have been approved for accommodating the delegates.
Other key aspects, such as security and safety, are well-organized, with the Ministry of Police, Prisons & Corrections Services taking the lead, along with agencies responsible for our international borders.
We will also work in collaboration with our usual partners, including Australia, New Zealand, and other Pacific nations who have offered their assistance. The government of the United Kingdom is also involved.
The transportation arrangements for the leaders and their delegations are being handled by a dedicated committee.
A special program for the King of the United Kingdom will be finalised in the near future.
Samoa is fully prepared, and we welcome this important international gathering, which will be hosted on our shores for the first time.
