Apia, Samoa – The 34th Teuila Festival concluded on Friday morning with a closing ceremony held at the Teuila Stage in front of the FMFM II Building. The Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Tuala Tevaga Iosefo Ponifasio, addressed a crowd of dignitaries, participants, and members of the public, expressing gratitude for the success of the event and its focus on environmental preservation.

The festival, which spanned several days, embraced the theme “Enrich Our Environment, Embrace Our Culture.” Organizers reported a noticeable reduction in plastic waste compared to previous years, aligning with the festival’s goal of promoting sustainability.

“It’s encouraging to see the community respond to our plastic-free initiative,” said Tuala. “While we haven’t completely eliminated plastic waste, the progress we’ve seen this year is commendable.”

Performers from both Samoa and abroad contributed to the cultural events, which featured traditional dances, music, and competitions. Participants in the Miss Samoa Pageant also played a prominent role, with districts supporting their respective contestants throughout the festival.

Tuala acknowledged the performers who traveled from overseas, saying, “Your presence has added a special touch to our celebrations. We appreciate your dedication and hope you return to Samoa soon.”

Onomea Production, in collaboration with local communities, was recognized for its work with the Anofale initiative, which focuses on empowering young women through cultural engagement. Tuala noted the importance of these efforts, thanking those involved for their contributions.

As the festival wrapped up, Tuala urged the public to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of Samoa’s villages and environment, saying, “Let’s continue this collective effort to protect our home.”

The Miss Samoa Pageant, which will crown its 2024 winner on Saturday night, remains a key highlight of the festival.
