Salelologa, Savai‘i – 12 June 2025 – A ground-breaking ceremony was held this week to mark the start of construction for Samoa’s newest Post Office branch in Salelologa, Savai‘i — a milestone development set to improve postal services across the big island.

The ceremony was led by the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Hon. Mau’u Siaosi Puepuemai, who described the event as the fulfilment of a long-anticipated government plan. The new Post Office will be the first of its kind for Salelologa, marking the expansion of national postal infrastructure into this key area of Savai‘i.

“This is the first time we are building a fully established postal office for Salelologa, one that reflects the same standards and services offered in Upolu,” said the Minister during his remarks. “This project continues the long-term vision of the Government and supports better access to services for communities in Savai‘i.”

The land preparation and blessing ceremony was held at the site in Tapa‘au and Salelologa, where the new facility will be constructed. The project contract has been awarded to Fairview Co. Ltd, who successfully tendered among competing bids.

The official opening of the new Post Office is scheduled for Thursday, 26 June 2025.

Also in attendance was the CEO of the Samoa Post Office, Mike Lemisio, who reiterated the importance of this new facility not just for Salelologa, but for the entire island of Savai‘i. He acknowledged the government’s commitment to expanding essential services to previously underserved areas.

The development is expected to improve logistics, delivery times, and community access to both traditional and digital postal services.

The ceremony concluded with a prayer for the success of the project and the continued progress of Samoa’s postal sector.
