The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Customs and Revenue, Hon. Tuala Tevaga Iosefo Ponifasio, officially launched the Joint Action on Compliance and Enforcement (JACE) and the National Compliance Awareness Program on Wednesday evening at the Samoa Tourism Fale in Apia.
In his address, the Deputy Prime Minister described the launch as a critical step in Samoa’s efforts to reinforce legal compliance, promote good governance, and build sustainable partnerships with both local and foreign businesses.
“With Samoa continuing to open its doors to foreign residents and investors, we must ensure that mutual understanding and respect for our national laws underpin all economic activity,” said Hon. Tuala.
The JACE initiative aims to improve cooperation across government agencies and provide the business community with clear, accessible information about legal obligations. The focus is shifting from reactive enforcement to proactive education, awareness, and support.
The National Compliance Awareness Program will begin on Thursday, 19 June, and continue through Friday, 20 June 2025. It will include workshops, printed materials, and digital outreach covering immigration, labour standards, licensing, customs, taxation, and public safety.
Hon. Tuala acknowledged the JACE taskforce and the multiple government ministries involved, including Immigration, Labour, Customs and Revenue, Police, and Corrections. Their combined effort reflects a whole-of-government approach to enforcement and education.
“We encourage the business community to take full advantage of these sessions. Compliance is not only about the law—it is about trust, integrity, and sustainable growth,” he said.
The program is designed to reach both foreign and local business owners and workers, with an emphasis on collaboration and inclusive development.
The event was attended by Cabinet Ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, and private sector representatives.
