Last week Friday, the 10 October, the village of Fasitoouta marked a significant milestone with the official opening of its new Nofotane Lockable Market. This transformative project, fully funded by the European Union (EU) through the SVSG NSSE Project, represents another step forward in the Samoa Victim Support Group’s (SVSG) mission to empower marginalized women across Samoa.
The opening ceremony was attended by village leaders and women’s community groups from Fasitoouta, who warmly welcomed SVSG President Siliniu Lina Chang and the SVSG management team. The event was marked by a spirit of gratitude and unity as the community came together to celebrate this milestone.

The ceremony was led by the Methodist church minister, who delivered a special message recognizing the vital role that both women and men, as well as local leaders, play in supporting the development of village women, especially the vulnerable Nofotane women. His remarks highlighted the importance of collaboration and community support of men in empowering women and fostering progress in Fasitoouta.

SVSG President Siliniu Lina Chang expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the village leaders for their support of local women’s initiatives and for standing in solidarity to protect women from violence through economic empowerment efforts.
The SVSG Nofotane Lockable Market is a testament to the strength and creativity of Samoa’s women. It embodies SVSG’s commitment to providing practical pathways toward financial stability and dignity for women and their families. Through partnerships with organizations like the European Union, SVSG continues to make meaningful progress in building safer, stronger, and more inclusive communities across the nation.
