Samoa Newshub has chosen not to name a public figure, politician, celebrity, institution, or organisation as our Person of the Year. For our platform, the past year has been shaped by faith, endurance, quiet service, forgiveness, and the strength of families who continued to carry responsibility in difficult circumstances. For that reason, our Person of the Year is Christ.

This choice is not about comparison with others, nor about elevating one group above another. It reflects the reality that for many families in Samoa and abroad, faith remains at the centre of how people live, work, support one another, and face hardship. In the lives of caregivers, workers, parents, church communities, and those walking through illness, grief, migration, or financial strain, faith in Christ has continued to anchor hope, patience, humility, and compassion.

Christ is present in the quiet acts of service that are rarely spoken about or recognised. In the care of the elderly and the sick. In parents who continue to provide for children. In families who stand together through stress and uncertainty. In those who choose restraint instead of anger, forgiveness instead of conflict, and generosity even when resources are limited.

Christ is present in hardship and loss. In the strength that carries people through hospital rooms and farewells. In the emotional weight of separation from loved ones overseas. In the long working hours that support families across borders. In the private struggles that are lived without public acknowledgement.

Christ is present in reconciliation. In the decision to repair relationships. In the effort to soften division within families and communities. In the small attempts toward understanding and peace, even when circumstances remain unresolved.

This year has reminded us that compassion, patience, mercy, and quiet responsibility continue to define how many of our people live their lives. These values are not always visible in headlines or public spaces, but they sit at the core of how families survive and support one another.

For that reason, our Person of the Year is Christ.
