Japan and Aleipata community celebrated a significant milestone today with the completion and official handover of the renovated school facilities of Aleipata College, funded under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP).
The handover ceremony held earlier today (4 March) at the school compound, was graced by His Excellency, Mr. SUZUKI Ryotaro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Samoa alongside representatives from the Ministry of Education and Culture, members of the school committee, parents, students, and teachers.
The School Committee was awarded a grant of SAT 353,001 in October last year.

The renovation works were carried out on two existing school buildings that house a total of 16 classrooms. The scope of work included the replacement of roofing and ceilings, installation of new blackboard, repair of the electrical system, fixing cracks on floors and walls, replacement of louvers and windows, replacement of lightning fixtures etc. These improvements were undertaken to provide a safer, more conducive and more comfortable learning environment for both students and teachers.

As a long-standing supporter of education, the Government of Japan remains committed to providing grant assistance for essential capital improvement projects to schools in need throughout Samoa.
The renovated facilities are expected to significantly improve learning conditions and benefit approximately 320 students and 19 teachers.
Japan believes education plays a very important role in socio-economic development and looks forward to continuing its support to schools in Samoa through its GGP.
