Samoa has outlined a series of priorities for stronger regional cooperation across the Pacific, with Deputy Prime Minister Mulipola Anarosa Ale Molio’o calling for practical action on digital governance, renewable energy and climate resilience.
Speaking during the Pacific Leaders’ Dialogue, Mulipola said Samoa wanted regional discussions to result in measures that directly improve the lives of Pacific communities.
“Samoa remains committed to advancing practical, people-centred solutions that strengthen our region and deliver real benefits for Pacific communities,” Mulipola said.
The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted four main areas for regional action, including digital and artificial intelligence governance, renewable energy transition, climate leadership and stronger regional support mechanisms.
On digital governance, Samoa called for greater Pacific cooperation to protect children and older people online, strengthen data privacy safeguards and support national efforts to build greater digital resilience.
The Government also highlighted the growing importance of artificial intelligence governance as Pacific countries expand their use of digital technologies.
Energy security was another major focus, with Samoa calling for affordable renewable energy solutions that can reduce the Pacific’s reliance on imported fuel.
For small island countries where fuel imports remain a significant economic burden, the Government said greater access to renewable energy could strengthen energy security while reducing costs.
Climate change remained central to Samoa’s regional position.
Samoa reaffirmed its support for maintaining the global 1.5°C temperature target and called for Pacific countries to have greater access to climate finance and scientific information needed to strengthen resilience.
The Government said regional cooperation would be essential in ensuring Pacific nations are better equipped to respond to climate impacts while continuing their economic and social development.
Samoa’s participation in the Leaders’ Dialogue also reflects priorities contained in the Pathway for the Development of Samoa 2026–2031, with the Government seeking greater regional cooperation that produces tangible benefits for Samoa and the wider Pacific.
