Fetūao of Ti’avea and Lausalato of Matāutu, Lefaga have been crowned the men’s and women’s champions of the inaugural Measina a Samoa Cricket League for 2026.
The Government of Samoa announced the tournament results following the conclusion of the traditional Samoan cricket competition, which brought together teams from across Upolu and Savai’i.
In the men’s competition, Fetūao of Ti’avea claimed the championship and the $10,000 first prize, with Pili’oua of Matāutu, Falealili finishing second and receiving $6,000.
Ma’ata of Samata secured third place and $4,000, while Tanifa o le Vao of Sili finished fourth and received $3,000. Other participating men’s teams were awarded $2,000 each.
The semi-finals saw Pili’oua advance after chasing down Tanifa o le Vao’s total of 93, reaching 94.
In the other semi-final, Fetūao recorded 100 before restricting Ma’ata of Samata to 84, securing their place in the championship decider.
In the women’s competition, Lausalato of Matāutu, Lefaga took the championship and an $8,000 prize.
Ma’aseugogo of Fusi, Safata finished second and received $6,000, followed by Va’alele of Faleāpuna in third place with $4,000.
Teine o le Papaloa of Vaitele finished fourth and received $3,000, while other participating women’s teams received $2,000 each.
The Government said the tournament forms part of its efforts to revive and strengthen traditional Samoan sports and cultural practices.
It described traditional activities such as Samoan cricket as part of the country’s heritage and identity, linking them to Samoa’s land, genealogy and cultural foundations.
The strong number of teams participating this year was also welcomed by the Government as an indication of continuing public support for the revival of traditional sporting competitions.
