The Government of Samoa has declared a 30-day State of Emergency to address the ongoing energy crisis, with the Electric Power Corporation (EPC) implementing a new power supply rationing schedule effective immediately.
According to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), the rationing is designed to manage electricity distribution and will be reviewed weekly. EPC will operate two feeders simultaneously—one large and one small—in an effort to balance demand and supply. Adjustments will be made case by case to improve distribution efficiency.
EPC confirmed that critical service areas will not be affected. These include the National Hospital and hydro-generating regions connected to the Fagaloa, Sauniatu, Taelefaga, and Lalomauga Feeders. Some sections of the Vaitele Feeder will also remain fully operational.
Temporary generators are expected to arrive at 3pm today to assist with load-sharing and help ease rationing. EPC teams are also carrying out infrastructure maintenance and repairs to restore power generation capacity.
The NEOC remains fully operational around the clock, coordinating emergency response activities and providing updates. Sector-based assessments are underway to identify key infrastructure challenges and prioritise critical needs.
The public is encouraged to follow official communication channels for rationing schedules and further information. EPC and NEOC continue to work together to maintain essential services and reduce disruptions during the emergency period.
