‘Jesus, it was I who crucified you’: Students’ cry at Maluafou College assembly

Students at Maluafou College moved their audience to tears this week with a powerful reenactment of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

The Year 12 students, through song, drama, and scripture, reflected on the biblical events leading to Christ’s death and delivered a message that challenged those present to consider their own actions in light of faith.

According to the Christian narrative, Jesus was arrested and sentenced to death after being accused of blasphemy. He was forced to carry His cross to Golgotha, where He was crucified alongside two criminals. His suffering on the cross lasted for six hours.

The students’ performance centred on the message that anyone could have been responsible for that moment in history… and that through His sacrifice, Jesus gave humanity a path back to God. The line ‘Jesus, it was I who crucified you’ became the emotional heart of the presentation.

Teachers and parents who attended the school assembly were visibly emotional. Some were seen wiping away tears as they watched their children bring to life stories they had learned both in Sabbath school and through Religious Knowledge classes.

Principal Papalii Leatufale Lasi Tavae told the assembly,

“We commemorate it historically because it is a significant part of our faith.”

The students also wore traditional attire, a gesture of reverence often reserved for elders, used here as a sign of respect for Jesus.

Their message was clear; when we sin, we take part in the crucifixion – a message that resonated strongly with the crowd.
