The Samoa Umbrella for Non-Governmental Organisations (SUNGO) successfully concluded a two-day workshop focused on enhancing advocacy and engagement skills among civil society organizations (CSOs) from 28 to 29 October 2025.

Held at Sogi in Apia, the workshop brought together close to 30 participants representing a diverse range of CSOs across Samoa. The initiative aimed to build capacity in strategic advocacy, effective stakeholder engagement, and policy influence which are the key tools for civil society to amplify their voices and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Over the course of the workshop, participants engaged in interactive sessions covering topics such as advocacy planning, communication strategies, coalition-building, and navigating policy environments. The training also provided a platform for networking and peer learning, fostering stronger collaboration among CSOs working in various sectors.

SUNGO National President, Lavea Peseta Lua Nafo‘i, emphasized the importance of empowering civil society actors:

“Advocacy is at the heart of civil societies’ role in shaping inclusive and accountable governance. This workshop is part of our ongoing commitment to strengthen the sector’s ability to engage constructively with government and development partners.”

Participants expressed appreciation for the practical tools and shared experiences offered during the sessions, noting that the workshop has equipped them with renewed confidence and clarity in their advocacy efforts.

The workshop forms part of SUNGO’s broader mission to support and unify civil society in Samoa, ensuring that community voices are heard and respected in decision-making processes.

This workshop is the first of two courses, funded by the European Union through the International IDEA in partnership with The Samoa Umbrella for Non-Governmental Organizations. The next will be held early in 2026.
