The Ministry of Customs and Revenue advises that its Customs Service has intercepted a shipment containing 1.4 kilograms of methamphetamine earlier today, Saturday 22 November 2025.

The prohibited substances were located during a targeted inspection of a consignment arriving from American Samoa. The drugs were concealed inside a box of frozen chicken, consistent with concealment techniques used by criminal groups attempting to move illicit drugs into Samoa through everyday commercial goods.

Upon discovery, frontline Customs staff secured the shipment and activated the Ministry’s enforcement procedures. A male importer associated with the consignment was detained and subsequently transferred, along with the seized substances, to the Ministry of Police, Prisons and Corrections Service for further investigation.

The Ministry acknowledges the vigilance of its officers, whose risk assessment and inspection work prevented these drugs from entering the community. Customs continues to enhance its border protection capability through intelligence-sharing, training, inspection technologies, the K9 Unit, and close cooperation with domestic and international enforcement agencies.

The Ministry remains committed to strengthening Samoa’s borders and supporting national efforts to prevent the harm caused by illicit drugs.
