JoJo Savea is a Deaf Samoan storyteller, accessibility advocate, content creator, public speaker, and social media strategist based in the United States. She has become a respected voice in the Deaf community by using her platform to educate others about Deaf culture while proudly celebrating her Samoan heritage.
What makes JoJo’s story unique is that she doesn’t see her Deaf identity and her Samoan identity as separate. She embraces both, often describing herself simply as
“Deaf. Samoan. On the move.”
Through her videos, speaking engagements, and advocacy, she encourages people to see Deafness not as a disability that limits potential, but as a culture and language that deserves recognition and inclusion.
Over the past decade, JoJo has built a career in social media and digital storytelling, working with organizations, brands, and community groups. Her work includes:
- advocating for accessibility and inclusion,
- educating hearing audiences about Deaf culture,
- speaking at conferences and community events,
- creating authentic digital content, and
- consulting on projects that make media more accessible to Deaf audiences.
One of her proudest achievements has been contributing to Disney’s Moana accessibility initiatives. As a consultant and collaborator on sign language projects connected to Moana, JoJo helped ensure that Deaf audiences could experience one of Disney’s most celebrated Pacific stories in a way that is authentic and meaningful.
This role has brought international recognition to her work and highlighted the importance of Deaf representation in mainstream media.
