Samoa’s new retail fuel prices have come into effect from 1 September 2026, with motorists seeing a small decrease in petrol prices while diesel and kerosene have increased.
The Ministry of Finance announced the September retail petroleum prices following advice from Minister of Finance Mulipola Anarosa Ale-Molio’o.
Petrol has decreased by 2.5 sene per litre, with the new retail price set at $3.54 per litre.
Diesel has increased by 32.5 sene per litre, bringing the price from $3.89 to $4.22 per litre.
Kerosene has also increased, rising by 29.3 sene per litre from $3.48 to $3.78 per litre.
The Government said the September prices are based on fuel cargoes loaded in July and delivered to Samoa during August.
According to the Ministry of Finance, international fuel prices continue to be affected by uncertainty surrounding crude oil cargoes travelling through the Strait of Hormuz.
This has affected refined petroleum products sourced from Southeast Asian refineries, including Singapore.
Petrol prices have remained relatively stable over the past two months, which the Government attributed to a balance between reduced consumer demand and refinery production capacity.
Diesel has faced greater price pressure because of strong demand from industries including transport, construction, power generation and mining.
The Ministry also noted that diesel requires a more complex refining process than petrol, contributing to the difference between diesel and petrol prices.
The new maximum retail prices for September are $3.54 per litre for petrol, $4.22 per litre for diesel and $3.78 per litre for kerosene.
