Aspiring doctors and school leaders, Celina Oliva Tamala and Ioasa Gaoā, have excelled academically, both securing first place in their year 13 level through dedication and hard work.

During the recent prize-giving ceremony at Palauli Sisifo College, Celina and Ioasa were honoured as the college’s co-dux for this academic year. Celina, serving as head-girl, achieved top marks in Agriculture Science, English, Samoan, Design & Technologies, and ranked third in Chemistry and Mathematics. Meanwhile, Ioasa, the head-boy, led in Chemistry and Mathematics, placed second in English and Samoan, and third in Agriculture Science and Biology.

Seventeen-year-old Celina expressed joy over their achievements, saying, “It’s a memorable moment, marking our year-long effort to inspire our fellow students. We’re thrilled to see our vision come to life.”

Ioasa reflected on the challenges they faced balancing leadership roles and academic responsibilities, saying, “Balancing our duties and studies was tough, but with faith and hard work, we’ve made it.”

The duo credits their success to their support system and divine guidance, acknowledging the constant backing from their families and school.

Both Celina and Ioasa aspire to become doctors. Celina is the daughter of Naomi Oliva and Olivia Tamala, hailing from Salailua and Taga. Ioasa is the son of Saomalie and Gaoā, from Satuiatua.

As they prepare to leave the school, they shared a parting message, “To our peers at Palauli Sisifo, persevere and never lose hope. We extend our gratitude to our teachers for their courage and guidance, and to our families, we promise to continue making you proud and inspiring future generations.”
