In a significant diplomatic event, H.E. Fei Mingxing, the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Samoa, presented his credentials to Afioga Le Mamea Tuiletufuga Ropati Mualia, a member of Samoa’s Council of Deputies. The formal ceremony took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

Fei Mingxing’s appointment marks a new chapter in the long-standing relationship between Samoa and China, which has been friendly and cooperative since their diplomatic ties were first established on November 6, 1975. During the ceremony, Afioga Le Mamea highlighted the importance of mutual respect and shared interests in the development of both nations. He emphasised that the relationship is built on friendship and adherence to the One-China principle, which respects sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Ambassador Fei Mingxing, in his response, pledged to put forth his best efforts to enhance the bilateral relations between the two countries. He expressed a commitment to deepen friendship and cooperation across various areas for mutual benefit. Afioga Le Mamea expressed optimism that Ambassador Fei’s appointment would open more avenues for collaboration and further strengthen Samoa and China’s bilateral ties.

Before his appointment in Samoa, Ambassador Fei Mingxing held several prestigious positions. He served in the Beijing Service Bureau for Diplomatic Missions and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China. His diplomatic career includes roles in Sydney, Australia, the United Kingdom, Fiji, and as the Consul General in Durban. Most recently, he was the Counselor of the Department of Consular Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China. Ambassador Fei is a graduate with a Bachelor’s degree and is a family man with a wife and son.

Ambassador Fei Mingxing arrived in Samoa on January 1, 2024, succeeding H.E. Chao Xiaoliang, who completed his diplomatic service on December 7, 2023. This transition is seen as a step forward in continuing the strong relationship between Samoa and China, focusing on mutual development and cooperation.
