BYU Provo Donates Health Supplies to NUS Samoa

The National University of Samoa today received a generous donation of Health and Medical supplies from the Brigham Young University Provo at a small Hand-over ceremony at the Pesega compound. This donation was made possible through a BYU Provo Alzeimers Research project led by President John S. K Kauwe as well as some generous good Samaritans in Provo Utah.

To present this donation, Tofā Namulauulu Dr Gaugau Tavanā who was part of the small delegation from BYU Provo officiated as the MC and called upon Elder Denny Faalogo, the Area Seventy of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints to officially speak to present on behalf of BYU Provo, the Church’s institution, this generous donation. Elder Denny Faalogo in presenting reflected on the Lord’s golden commandment of Love thy Lord with all your heart and Love thy neighbor. According to Elder Faalogo, “this donation is a manifestation of our Lord’s commandment and with the hope that this donation will be well utilized by the University for its educational purposes”.

In receiving this donation, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Peseta Dr Desmond Lee Hang spoke on behalf of Professor Tuifuisa’a Patila Amosa, the Vice Chancellor and President of NUS and Management, to thank Elder Denny Faalogo, Stake President Jared Palepoi as well as the BYU Provo Alzeimers Research team consisting of Dr Justina Tavanā, Namulauulu Dr Gaugau Tavanā and his good lady plus the many generous donors in Provo Utah for this valuable donation. Peseta said: “This valuable donation will greatly benefit the students in our medical, nursing and health professionals programmes”. Peseta also wished the BYU Provo Alzeimers Research team who will depart Samoa later today, good health and safe travels.

The donation consisted of a container filled with boxes of materials such as: lab coats, PPEs, gauzes and dressing materials, first aid supplies, pillows, paper and linen towels, sharps bins, saline solutions, wheel chairs, a weight scale and a walker, to name a few. The estimated value of the donation is about SAT$45,000.
