The National University of Samoa (NUS) and Christ’s University in the Pacific (CUP) in Tonga have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) this month, aimed at cultivating robust academic and educational exchanges between the two institutions. This agreement represents a significant step to enhance scientific collaboration, promote research innovations, and strengthen the ties between the people of Samoa and Tonga.
The MOU signed by Professor Tuifuisa’a Patila Malua Amosa, Vice Chancellor & President of NUS, and Reverend Dr. Vili Vailea Saulala, Vice-Chancellor & Director of International Affairs of CUP, outlines several key purposes to facilitate cooperation between NUS and CUP, which include promoting interest in teaching and research initiatives at both universities. The agreement highlights opportunities for faculty and administrative mobility for a range of teaching and professional development activities. Additionally, it sets a foundation for student exchange programs and encourages collaborative research projects, as well organizing symposia, conferences, and meetings focused on relevant research challenges.
This Memorandum of Understanding serves as the fundamental framework for future program agreements between the NUS and CUP, allowing both institutions to engage collaboratively while ensuring financial commitments remain within their usual budgetary resources.
Professor Tuifuisa’a Patila Malua Amosa stated, “We are grateful for this partnership which will open new doors for our students and faculty as well as enhancing educational opportunities and research capabilities in the Pacific region.”
Reverend Dr. Vili Vailea Saulala added, “This agreement marks a new chapter in academic collaboration for our universities. We anticipate the enriching exchanges of knowledge, culture, and experience that willenrich both universities.” NUS and CUP are excited to embark on this collaborative journey to support innovative educational practices and the pursuit of excellence in teaching and research and we look forward to the positive impact it will have on our students, faculty, and the wider community.
