Former Attorney General Bill Barr, who was known for his loyalty to Donald Trump, has stated that the investigation into classified documents related to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate could pose a serious threat to the former president. Barr accused Trump of playing “games” with federal investigators in an attempt to withhold the documents, which could potentially amount to obstruction of justice.
Barr expressed his views during an interview on ABC’s “This Week,” where he stated that the government is investigating whether Trump obstructed the retrieval of the documents and that there may be strong evidence supporting such claims. Barr emphasized that the documents did not belong to Trump and that he was “jerking the government around.”
Trump is currently under investigation by the Department of Justice special counsel for his handling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. Jim Trusty, who represents Trump in the case of the document, claimed that Trump no longer possesses any classified documents and has cooperated with the FBI and DOJ.
However, Trusty dismissed the notion of obstruction charges against Trump as “nonsense” on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” stating that the Justice Department is trying to find an angle that does not exist.
Barr also criticized the indictment and statement of facts released by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, calling it “opaque” and accusing Bragg of “trying to hide the ball.” Trusty referred to the indictment as “a ham sandwich” on ABC’s “This Week” and urged Trump’s legal team to prioritize motions to dismiss the case as a means to address the alleged miscarriage of justice.
