Joshua Kwaku Asiedu, a man who has travelled the world and learned from different cultures, was greatly inspired by a family he stayed with in Samoa. This family lived in a way that respected nature and focused on sustainability. Their way of life deeply impacted Joshua, and he decided to embrace a similar sustainable lifestyle in Ghana. He chose to live off-grid, meaning he relies less on traditional sources of electricity and water.
In 2019, Joshua started his sustainable living journey in a tropical forest. He looked at many different pieces of land before finding a secluded spot about one kilometer away from the nearest village. The land used to be a cocoa farm and he thought it was perfect for his sustainable home.
With minimal rules and regulations, Joshua set up his off-grid dwelling using basic items like a beach bed, a mosquito net, and a tarp for shelter. He lived in a tent for a year, but it wasn’t ideal because of the dampness and mold. So, he decided to build a proper house.

Using local materials like clay, cow dung, and bamboo, Joshua carefully constructed a 27ft by 10ft house in just six months. It’s an impressive achievement with everything he needs, including a shower, toilet, bedroom, kitchen, living area, running water, and even a clay fridge.
Joshua doesn’t just live sustainably himself, he also shares his lifestyle on TikTok and Instagram, where he has a lot of followers. He inspires others to adopt sustainable practices and earns money through social media and workshops. He even sells products that he and local residents grow, creating a sustainable business.
Joshua is committed to sustainable living and although he may move to a different place in the future, he will continue his sustainable lifestyle.
