The 6th Japan Construction International Award Ceremony witnessed a momentous occasion as the Japanese Government presented the esteemed “Award for the Construction Project Category” to Konoike Construction Company Limited and the Central Consultant Incorporated. The award recognizes their remarkable achievement in the “Project for the Reconstruction of the Vaisigano Bridge” in Samoa. This significant infrastructure project has not only strengthened the vital transportation link but also contributed to Samoa’s climate resilience and socio-economic development. The new bridge stands as a testament to the importance of quality infrastructure in driving progress and resilience in the face of natural disasters.

According to Samoa’s Ambassador to Japan, H.E Faalavaau Perina J.Sila Tualalelei, the Vaisigano Bridge serves as a crucial connection, linking Samoa’s international wharf, city, central business district, industrial zone, and residential areas. Originally built in 1953, the bridge had faced considerable wear and tear over the years and had become structurally unsafe. Recognizing its significance, the Government of Japan, in collaboration with JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency), commenced the construction of a new bridge in 2018, which was successfully completed in 2021.
