Mangere, Auckland – The C.C.C.S. Puaseisei Church in Mangere hosted a comprehensive Careers Expo on Saturday, August 5, 2023. The event was organised in partnership with Connected.govt.nz and aimed to provide local community members with a plethora of employment, education and training opportunities.

Local residents gathered in the Mangere East Hall & Foyer on 36 Winthrop Way to discover and explore the diverse possibilities presented by an impressive list of providers. The Expo was officially opened with a prayer by Rev. Victor Pouesi.

“We are blessed and fortunate to have a variety of providers come here to reach out to the community and let them know what’s available for them,” said Siuila Victor Pouesi, one of the event’s organisers.

Angela Calvert, Employment Liaison Advisor at Connected.govt.nz, also part of the organising committee, added, “We’ve got lots of different providers here today, and hopefully you’ll find out a little bit more about them.”

Among the providers present were Erco, ATNZ, Jobs and Skills Hubs, QES, MIT, Te Pūkenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills & Technology, and ATT. Their representatives provided information about the services they offer, creating a platform for the attendees to broaden their understanding of various career paths.

Chris from Erco, the largest provider of electrical apprenticeships in the country, invited all interested individuals to explore a career in the electrical industry. “We are the biggest training provider for becoming an electrician. If you are interested in the trade, come and see us,” Chris said.

Also present was Sergeant Jay Pritchard from the Defence Force, who was there to promote opportunities within the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Lemauga Lydia Sosene, the Labour MP from Favona Māngere Auckland, who succeeded Louisa Wall in 2022, was also in attendance. She took the time to visit different booths and emphasised the importance of community participation in governmental programmes.

The Expo was hosted at the Puasesei EFKS, or CCCS Church, on 36 Winthrop Way, Mangere East, Auckland. This church is known for its vibrant community engagement and has been at the heart of local events.

This initiative was a great step in connecting the community to a wide range of opportunities and resources. It’s this kind of collective effort that helps communities thrive by providing them with the knowledge and opportunities needed to navigate their own career paths successfully.
