APIA, SAMOA – As reported by Taunuuga Toatasi for Savali Newspaper, Samoa is earnestly preparing to host the esteemed Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in October 2024. An essential part of these preparations centers on infrastructural development, particularly concerning road expansions and improvements.

Expecting an influx of international delegates and media, a significant project has been greenlit to enhance the roads leading to the Faleolo International Airport. The World Bank, having committed $49 million, ensures this project will provide a seamless connection between Vaitele’s business warehouses and the airport. Moreover, a new bypass is being planned for the public, connecting Fasito’o – Tai and Vaitele.

During a recent Cabinet Committee on Development inspection, Galumalemana Titi Agnes Tutuvanu – Schwalger, the Chief Executive Officer of the Land Transport Authority, highlighted the broad-reaching benefits of these infrastructural projects. “Prioritising contracts for Samoan-owned businesses not only bolsters our local economy,” she remarked, “but guarantees the reinvestment of funds we receive right here in our homeland.”

CHOGM, a biennial event, provides a platform for leaders of the Commonwealth nations to deliberate on global challenges and foster collaborations. Samoa, as the 2024 host, is eager to showcase its progress, resilience, and vibrant culture to the world.

With these infrastructure undertakings, Samoa isn’t merely transforming its physical landscape. The nation is laying down the foundation for stronger economic and global ties, ensuring that come October 2024, delegates will experience the pinnacle of Samoan hospitality and progress.
