Moeloto, proudly representing the villages of Avao, Fagamalo, Salimu Fagaloa, Alamagoto, and Malifa, steps into the limelight as a contestant in this year’s Miss Samoa pageant, as reported by the Savali Newspaper. Her journey is deeply intertwined with her heritage, most notably the memory of her late grandparents, Tauai Lealaiauloto Niukini Laloua Tiatia and Taumate Tiatia.

The School of Fine Arts at Leulumoega holds a special place in her heart, serving as a nurturing ground for her artistic pursuits. It’s this school and her elders that have instilled in her the true essence and responsibilities of a tamaitai Samoa, teaching her the foundational values of the siva Samoa dance form.

A defining moment in Moeloto’s life was her decision to get a malu at 16. Guided by the stories of her ancestors and the tradition of the Samoan tattoo, she faced the pain and emerged more mature, understanding the weight of responsibilities that came with it. Moeloto’s commitment to culture and tradition is evident in her appeal to Samoan women to honour and preserve the sanctity of the malu.

While Moeloto’s connection to her roots is undeniable, she’s also a modern woman with an artistic flair. With interests spanning from fashion to hieroglyphics, she holds the unique title of “Princess” at the School of Fine Arts at Leulumoega, standing out as its only female student. Amidst the challenges of being in such a position, she finds strength, proudly advocating for natural beauty and the message that “natural is the way to go.”

Her journey wasn’t without its hurdles. Torn between her father’s academic aspirations for her and her own artistic inclinations, she made a bold choice to follow her passion. Her mother, Roberta Tiatia, served as her pillar, supporting her decision to join the School of Fine Arts. Today, Moeloto looks back with gratitude, encouraging other youths to take risks and follow their heart.

Inspired by the legendary artist Vincent van Gogh, Moeloto’s artistry is gaining recognition, with her work now showcased at the C.C.C.S. Museum. As she strides forward, she continually acknowledges her mentors and well-wishers, including the Principal of the School of Fine Arts Pelenato Liufau, Susana Liufau, and former Principal Lealofi Siāopo, and is immensely grateful for the unwavering support of her family and friends.
