Apia, Samoa – The iconic Le Mafa Pass Lookout has been officially reopened after significant upgrades, offering improved facilities for tourists and locals traveling between Falefa and Lotofaga. The lookout provides an expansive view of Apia and the surrounding coastal areas from its strategic high-elevation position.
As reported by the Samoa Observer and the Samoa Tourism Authority, the opening ceremony featured key figures, including local officials and the New Zealand High Commissioner to Samoa, Dr. Trevor Matheson. The event marked the culmination of a project supported by the New Zealand Aid Programme, aimed at strengthening Samoa’s appeal as a tourist destination.
The Samoa Tourism Authority Chairperson, Tauiliili Alise Stunnenberg, expressed sincere thanks to the New Zealand government for its consistent support, which has been crucial for the development of Samoa’s tourism sector.
Dr. Matheson reiterated New Zealand’s commitment to aiding Samoa’s tourism industry, highlighting the sector’s vital role in stimulating economic growth and creating employment opportunities, particularly in the post-COVID context.
Constructed by King Construction at a total cost of SAT$94,673.87, the upgraded lookout aligns with Samoa’s objectives to enhance tourist sites and provide high-quality experiences for its visitors. The project adds to the array of natural attractions Samoa offers, further enriching the cultural and recreational experiences available to visitors of our beautiful island nation.
