A recent video of a gay couple’s proposal quickly sparked heated reactions among millions of Christians, revealing a harsh reality that exposes the human nature ugliness in the world.
Let’s be clear: the Bible doesn’t directly address the modern concept of same-sex marriage. However, interpretations of biblical passages have led many to believe that practices involving same-gender relationships are considered sinful.
As followers of Jesus, our mission is to share the gospel and the truth, but it must be done in a way that reflects His love. The first step is prayer, asking for understanding minds and open hearts from those we deem to be in error.
Furthermore, we must be mindful of our tone when communicating with others. If we approach them with kindness and empathy, they may be more inclined to listen and reflect on their actions.
Sadly, since the video of the proposal surfaced on social media, many self-proclaimed Christians have responded with negativity, criticism, and shaming, rather than speaking life into the hearts of those involved. This behaviour essentially digs the grave for these individuals, pushing them towards despair and thoughts of self-harm, or causing heartaches and pains to their families.
What’s crucial to understand is that while we must stand firm in our beliefs, we should never use them to hurt others. There are ways to share the truth without causing harm, following God’s example of maintaining peace while remaining true to His teachings.
We’re all sinners, and it’s imperative that we pray for one another, breaking down walls of judgment and building each other up.
To those who have faced condemnation and cruelty because of their love, there is hope. Jesus is always there, ready to offer His love and acceptance. When we choose to let Him in, everything changes.
In times of adversity, remember where you belong. You belong to Jesus, not to the judgments of others. This doesn’t mean ignoring truth, but it does mean approaching difficult topics with consideration and compassion. Let’s be voices for the voiceless, fostering a community of repentance and love as we await the second coming of our Saviour.
