Various youth groups of the Seventh Day Adventist (S.D.A) church in Samoa coloured Apia urban area this morning as they offered free service to the community.
In commemoration of the church’s Global Youth Day, celebrated annually on March 16, this year’s program was based on the theme “Show up in the cities,” developed from the SDA’s mission theme for the next five years, “I will go,” which refers to spreading the gospel in various ways. Therefore, these young people showed up in Apia with the purpose of reaching out to the whole of Samoa, conducting a clean-up initiative. This not only demonstrates the preservation of God’s creation (natural surroundings) but also contributes to an improved living condition, as our town has already been polluted by urban activities.
The significant roles of future leaders in society are unique and impressive. Nevertheless, a sad reality experienced in Apia nowadays is the rise in the number of young adults involved in brawls and criminal activities such as selling drugs and other crimes.
It is through simple acts of kindness that powerful messages are conveyed to others, as actions speak louder than words. Apart from Samoa, the day was also celebrated worldwide. Global Youth Day officially launches the Youth Week of Prayer meetings starting tomorrow.
