Age proved no barrier when Luatoga Pene answered the call to serve as a deacon in his Seventh Day Adventist church. Ordained alongside seasoned members, Luatoga stood as the youngest to hold the title within his congregation.

In the Seventh Day Adventist tradition, deacons and deaconesses are entrusted with the stewardship of the church’s resources and serve as pillars of support for both leaders and members. Their role mirrors that of caretakers in a royal abode, defined by responsibility rather than servitude. They undergo rigorous training, cultivating virtues and skills essential for their service, driven by a commitment to honour God above all else.

Pastor Taei Siaki and the nominating committee discerned in Luatoga the qualities requisite for his new role, a testament to his preparedness despite his tender age.

Luatoga’s journey commenced within the Children’s Ministry, where his musical talents first blossomed. Today, at the age of twelve, he not only graces the congregation with his piano melodies but also contributes as the youngest member of the church’s IT team.

Scripture reminds believers of their predestined purpose, even from the womb, calling them to be instruments in the divine plan. In a world where societal challenges increasingly encroach upon youth, nurturing them in virtues becomes paramount, ensuring their commitment to righteousness and genuine service.

Luatoga’s humility in accepting recognition from his community reflects his gratitude for the opportunity to serve. As he approaches the culmination of his primary school education, his presence at Nuu Seventh Day Adventist Church stands as a beacon of hope for the congregation and a testament to the enduring spirit of faith among the young.
