Samoa Tourism Authority receives WST$1.8 million marketing boost from Australia

Apia, SAMOA – The Australian Government is pleased to support the Samoa Tourism Authority (STA) with its marketing through a grant of WST$1.8 million.

The support aims to enhance Samoa’s tourism marketing efforts, with a focus on attracting visitors from Australia. It is expected to significantly contribute to the recovery and growth of Samoa’s tourism industry, which is a cornerstone of the nation’s economy.

The grant was signed by STA’s Board Chair, Tauiliili Alise Stunnenberg, and witnessed by Australia’s High Commissioner to Samoa, His Excellency Mr Will Robinson.

High Commissioner Robinson expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership and its potential impacts. “Australia’s support for Samoa’s tourism sector reflects our commitment to the mutual prosperity of our nations. We believe that strengthening Samoa’s tourism industry not only benefits the local economy, but also enhances the bond between our peoples,” said Mr Robinson.

Further emphasizing the importance of this support, STA Board Chair Tauiliili said, “For the first time we have seen numbers grow from Australia since our borders opened. For momentum to grow this assistance will be very useful for Samoan tourism. We have a lot of faith that that the Australian market will grow but it can only with help from our partners, so we warmly thank the people and Government of Australia for this kind support”.

STA’s CEO Toleafoa Pativaine Petaia-Tevita, who was present at the signing, expressed her belief that the agreement signifies a commitment between the two Governments to the development of tourism in Samoa.

The grant, provided through Australian Government’s Tautai Partnership with the Samoan Government, is part of Australia’s broader efforts to support Samoa’s aspirations for safe, secure and prosperous communities, recognising the critical role that tourism plays in generating income and employment within the nation.
