Pursuing victory did not hinder good relation between the Samoa volleyball teams who traveled to play in Tutuila this month.
There were five men’s teams and only one women’s team from the Samoa Volleyball Association that went.
Even in the spirit of competition, there was opportunity to cooperate despite the eagerness of each team to win, the teams encouraged each other when preparing for a game.
In the men’s category, all the teams, I’a Sa, Fagalii, Tautai Oe, Laumua o Tumua, and Lona Youth, reached the Quarter Finals, as did the women’s team of I’a Sa.
In the first men’s Quarter Final, Lona Youth (Upolu) won against Laumua o Tumua (Upolu), in the second Quarter Final Tautai Oe lost to 4-Kona (American Samoa).
The following Quarter Final saw I’a Sa (Upolu) win against Laumuatasi (American Samoa), and in the final Quarter Final, Fagalii (Upolu) won against Emerald (American Samoa).
This stage ended and only three Samoan teams (I’a Sa, Lona Youth, Fagalii) from Upolu Samoa proceeded to the semifinals to compete who would move on to the championship final, along with one team from American Samoa, 4-Kona.
However, the most spectacular part of this competition was when the teams from Upolu end up competing for the championship and 2nd place in the men’s category, Lona Youth vs Fagalii, while I’a Sa vs 4-Kona competed for the third and fourth place.
The current standings are Fagalii in first place, Lona Youth in second, 4-Kona in third, and I’a Sa in fourth place.
Despite these achievements, there was overall humility with the teams, but there is pride shown in seeing positive progress in the development of the sport in Samoa, and the high level of performance showcased by the youth.
