1News originally reported that Kiwi fried chicken lovers waited in a long line, even overnight, for the opening of New Zealand’s first Popeyes restaurant in Takanini, Auckland. Popeyes is a famous American fried chicken chain that started in Louisiana in 1972 and has over 4300 restaurants worldwide. The Takanini store is the first in New Zealand.

One woman, who had been waiting in line with her baby for about three hours, said she was excited to try Popeyes for the first time. The general manager of Popeyes MF – New Zealand, James Mclauchlan, expressed excitement about the turnout and plans to expand to more locations across the country.

Customers who tried the food praised the spicy chicken sandwiches and buckets of chicken as delicious and worth the wait. However, some thought the mac n cheese could have been better. Overall, the fried chicken received positive reviews from taste testers.
