Prime Minister and Acting Minister of Finance Afioga Fiamē Naomi Mataʻafa has revealed the latest adjustments in Retail Petroleum Product Prices, set to take effect from the 1st of May 2024.
In the upcoming month, there will be a slight increase in the price of Petrol, rising by 1.0 sene per litre from $3.35 to $3.36. However, this increase is balanced by decreases in the prices of Diesel and Kerosene.
Diesel will see a significant decrease of 7.0 sene per litre, dropping from $3.52 to $3.45, while Kerosene will experience a decrease of 3.1 sene per litre, moving from $3.08 to $3.05.
These changes are in line with the March 2024 Mean of Platts Singapore ‘MOPS’ marker prices.
The global oil market is currently facing challenges due to the Russia/Ukraine war and escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The ongoing Russia/Ukraine war and increasing tensions in the Middle East combine to create uncertainty regarding the security of Crude Oil supplies, showing the need for vigilance in monitoring the market.
In figure 1, it shows a comparison of fuel prices with other Pacific countries like Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji in SAT, Samoa’s prices remain competitive.
In Australia, the price of ULP is $3.36 and ADO is $3.88, while in New Zealand, ULP is at $4.94 and ADO at $3.92. Fiji’s prices stand at $3.64 for ULP and $3.27 for ADO.
The government of Samoa continues to monitor global oil market trends closely and remains committed to ensuring stable and reasonable fuel prices for its citizens.
