The women’s meeting of the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa coincided well with the beginning of this week’s tragedy, where a house in the village of Leauvaa was burned down.

A decision was made during the Women’s Fellowship to kindly assist the family to ensure their most urgent needs are met at this time.

The $20,000 was donated yesterday.

It is suspected that the fire was caused by a malfunction.

When asked for a comment, the Commissioner of the Fire and Emergency Services Authority, Tanuvasa Petone Mauga, said,

“The family or any neighbours did not call to report the incident. It was one of our staff members who noticed the house on fire while driving by and alerted us.

“By that time, the fire had already spread considerably. Our staff were able to respond.”

It was mentioned that only the elderly woman and a young man were in the house at the time of the incident.

The Commissioner strongly advised the public to call 911 immediately to ensure a quick response and to minimise property damage or any risk to lives.

The good news is that no lives were lost or anyone injured in this incident.

It is customary for the Women’s Fellowship of the Church to offer assistance during their annual General Assembly in Malua.
