There is no other reason for the collective effort of former Avele College boys and girls to construct the Laumua Samoan Fale than the desire for a secure and prosperous future, as well as the preservation of a place that holds fond memories for the college and the entire nation.
The commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Laumua begins with the renovation of the fale for the whole school.
More than 70 former students, along with others living in Auckland, New Zealand, who were educated at Avele, traveled to Samoa to donate $100,000 for the refurbishment this morning.
According to the chair of the Association’s, Fata Reupena Faavaoga,
“We held a dance night last year and raised $70,000, along with our walkathon and the support of families and friends, we were able to collect this sum.”
The Chair of the 100th-year celebration committee, Honourable Olo Afoa Fiti Vaai, who is also the Minister of Works, Transport, and Infrastructure, expressed gratitude to the group from New Zealand for their generous donation.
