The Samoa Ports Authority (SPA) marked its 25th anniversary today by officially opening the upgraded Salelologa Port in Savaii.
The event started with a prayer by Rev. Asosili Suesue from the Salelologa Methodist Church. The keynote address was given by the Hon. Olo Fiti Afoa Vaai, Minister of Works, Transport, and Infrastructure. During the ceremony, Minister Vaai also presented a donation to the Mapuipulotu Organisation. The event ended with an inspection of the newly upgraded facilities at the port.
Since taking over the domestic ports in Mulifanua and Salelologa from the Samoa Shipping Corporation on 1st October 2022, SPA began upgrades first at Mulifanua Port, completed in July 2023, and then moved to Salelologa.
Upgrades at Salelologa Port include:
- Refurbished departure lounges with comfortable seating and television sets.
- Improved lounges for pensioners and business class suites.
- New shops for private businesses.
- A new fence and reconstructed car parking areas.
The SPA aims to improve the infrastructure and services at Samoa’s ports, ensuring better facilities for passengers and businesses.
