The Princess of Wales received a standing ovation at Centre Court while attending the Wimbledon men’s singles final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic with her daughter, Princess Charlotte. This was Catherine’s second public appearance since her cancer diagnosis and abdominal surgery earlier this year. The crowd warmly applauded her presence.
As the patron of the All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Catherine had the honor of presenting the singles trophy to Alcaraz after he retained his title against seven-time Wimbledon winner Djokovic, with a 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) victory. Before the match, Catherine and Charlotte met several British tennis players, including Emma Raducanu. Catherine also spoke to some of the ball boys and girls ahead of the trophy presentation.
During the ceremony, the princess offered her commiserations and shook hands with runner-up Djokovic before awarding the trophy to Alcaraz.
In June, Catherine resumed her public duties by attending Trooping the Colour, where she waved and smiled from the Buckingham Palace balcony with her children. She addressed her health in a statement, noting she is making “good progress” but is “not out of the woods yet.” Catherine mentioned having “good days and bad days,” with her treatment set to continue for a few more months.
While Catherine watched the tennis final, the Prince of Wales was in Berlin, preparing to support England in the Euro 2024 final against Spain.
