There are just two days left before the official opening of the 100-year celebration of the Marist Brothers Old Pupils Association (MBOPA) in Samoa, starting on Monday, 29 July 2024.
This event has been long planned by the Marist Old Boys.
The committee and various branches of the organisation have prepared a week-long program to celebrate the centennial anniversary.
According to the schedule, the celebration will begin on Monday, 29 July, with a mass at the Catholic Church in Lepea at 9 a.m., followed by a welcoming ceremony at St. Joseph’s College in Alafua at 11 a.m. The day’s activities include a BBQ and pool games at 12 p.m. at the MBOPA Taula Lounge, and a special dinner for the presidents of Marist affiliates at 7 p.m. at the MBOPA President’s residence in Moamoa. There will also be a siva hosted by MBOPA Samoa NZ from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Siva Afi, Eleele Fou, Apia Town.
On Tuesday, 30 July, a march towards the clock tower in the town center will start at 8:30 a.m., ending with a visit to the church cemeteries in Moamoa at 12 p.m. The day will also feature a Marist Forum meeting at 6 p.m. at the MBOPA Taula Lounge in Alafua.
On Wednesday, 31 July, a canoe race (Pacific Ezy Va’a Outrigger Regatta) will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Apia Harbour, followed by the finals of darts and pool games at 6 p.m. at the MBOPA Taula Lounge.
Thursday, 1 August, will feature a Marist Bazaar and Career Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Marist Brothers School in Mulivai, and a Tausala Online event in the evening at St. Joseph’s College, Alafua.
On Friday, 2 August, the MBOPA Centennial Golf Tournament will take place at the Faleata Golf Course, Tuanaimato, starting at 8 a.m., followed by the Vodafone Marist Music Festival from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Gym 1, Tuanaimato.
Saturday, 3 August, will feature athletics, volleyball, tag rugby, and fun games from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Joseph’s College, Alafua. The day’s events will conclude with a Corporate Dinner and Marist Excellence Service Awards at 6 p.m. at St. Joseph’s College, Alafua.
The celebrations will end on Sunday, 4 August, with a closing mass at 10 a.m. at the Lepea Catholic Church, followed by a To’ona’i at 12 p.m. at St. Joseph’s College, Alafua.
Commemorative pins for the 100-year celebration of Marist are also anticipated this year, granting access to all the centennial events (except for the Music Festival and Corporate Dinner).
