“Samoa, your unwavering support for our purpose is astounding. As we traveled through the villages and communities on the west coast from the airport, we witnessed the dedicated efforts of the esteemed Councils of Chiefs and Orators, along with the women and young ladies. The beautiful decorations of homes and streets are a true expression of strength, showing our pride and hospitality, for our nation.
“Thank you for your hard work, and well done for your wisdom,” were the heartfelt words of appreciation from the Head of Government, Fiame Naomi Mataafa.
The government and the entire country have witnessed the extraordinary and exceptional support and cooperation from each village, led by the Councils of Chiefs and Orators, the wives of the chiefs, chiefs themselves, and the strength of the village, including the children. This was expressed through the beautiful decorations adorning the village fronts, which were enhanced by colorful displays.
Many villages utilized the colors of the 56 nations participating in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to decorate their homes. It is a remarkable and extraordinary display, showcasing the deep roots and unity of all Samoans as they come together to support our leaders in preparing for this significant event.
The Prime Minister, filled with joy, praised this act of love and acknowledged the government’s call to come together in support of this great event, ensuring its success.
However, with the same spirit, the Prime Minister also appealed to the people to continue until the successful completion of this important meeting.
Fiame stated:
“With prayer and humility, we hope for the success of our purpose. May we continue working together, and let us keep praying that God will be with us.
“Samoa’s hospitality is not new, as it is deeply rooted in the customs of joyful faces, respect, love, and kindness.
“All other aspects of the preparations will be handled by the respective Chairpersons of the Working Committees to be conveyed to the nation.
“May your support be blessed, Samoa.”
This main meeting will be held for one week, starting from October 21 and concluding on 26 October 2024.
