Japan, through its Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP), officially handed over a newly built two-storey mental health facility to Goshen Trust in Samoa today. The project, valued at USD170,975 (SAT 454,000), aims to enhance mental health care and rehabilitation services in the country.
The handover ceremony took place in Vailima, attended by Japan’s Ambassador to Samoa, H.E. Mr. Senta Keisuke, and Samoa’s Minister of Health, Hon. Valasi Luapitofanua Tafito Selesele. Board members and staff of Goshen Trust, alongside other guests, were present.
Built on land provided by the Samoan Government, the facility includes 16 bedrooms, a multipurpose room, a consultation room, and basic amenities such as showers and toilets. The new building will assist Goshen Trust in expanding its capacity to care for those with mental health challenges.
Japan’s GGP has been funding development projects in Samoa since 1991, focusing on sectors such as health, education, and public welfare.
